As one of the key representative countries in Africa, Tanzania was a major focus of this market visit. With agriculture centered around both staple and cash crops, Tanzania stands out as a prominent agricultural country in East Africa. As the government continues to promote agricultural mechanization and the use of modern inputs, the demand for efficient and safe crop protection products has been steadily increasing. For major crops such as maize, rice, cotton, and coffee, the reliance on herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides grows year by year.
This trip covered approximately 30% of the country, during which we visited numerous agrochemical distributors, large-scale farmers, and retail shops. Through face-to-face communication, we gained deeper insight into the practical challenges and real needs faced in the field of crop protection. At the same time, we also identified several distinct characteristics of the Tanzanian market that set it apart from others:
1. Large market size but limited product diversity – Profenofos was by far the most frequently mentioned and used product;
2. Low technical knowledge among farmers and retailers – Most farmers are reluctant to invest in their crops, leading to low yields, and retailers generally lack the ability to promote products beyond popular items;
3. Strong influence of leading companies – Retail channels are highly concentrated, with significant market control by a few dominant players;
4. Significant presence of Indian products and companies – Indian brands enjoy strong visibility and market share.
In response to these conditions, Kenvos has been working closely with local distributors to discuss future cooperation models and market development strategies aimed at strengthening our foothold in Tanzania and expanding brand awareness. To support these efforts, we have also provided marketing materials such as sprayers and branded notepads to help our distributors enhance their outreach.
This visit has significantly deepened Kenvos’ understanding of the Tanzanian market and provided a strong strategic foundation for our broader expansion across East Africa. We aim to use the Tanzanian market as a reference model to support the successful development of Kenvos across other African markets. Looking ahead, Kenvos will remain driven by local market needs, continue to deliver high-performance crop protection solutions adapted to regional farming conditions, and accelerate the establishment of an integrated local operation system combining product, technology, and service.
